Any idea of mail store max capacity on zimbra? looking at building dual hexacore xeon, 64gb with 12tb of drive for our mail stores but not sure how much user capacity we can get out of that. we've got about 3k users and was hoping to keep this to ldap/mta w/ backup and 2 mailstores (plus a backup). any help would be greatly appreciated. The operational staffing outlined here is designed to help identify the technical and management skills required to manage and operate a high availability messaging service using zimbra collaboration suite. it takes into consideration the operational staffing needs of a 7 x 24 messaging service including the planning, engineering, and operations phases of the service lifecycle. also provided are estimated headcount levels for the various messaging functions. in this environment, zcs systems can be operated by as few as 2-3 support engineers depending on the size and complexity of the environment. this section looks at the broader operational requirements for delivering quality service. Within a zcs environment, intersecting technology layers are assembled to build the overall services that are provided by the application. one aspect of these layers would be linux system administration. this is considered a core system layer of the environment, and requires system administration tasks be performed on each component within the overall service layer. another aspect would be redundant (n+1) load balanced components of the zcs. this would be considered a front end architectural Backup & restore in zimbra scheduling and using the admin console. • bug tracking overview of performance tuning, basic capacity capacity planning zimbra planning and migration .
Technology layers. Capacity planning is of the utmost importance. this includes analyzing on a periodic basis user profiles and changing use patterns (see 3. 5 ). message storage, index and database disk space should be monitored and when they grow above a fixed target level, extra capacity should be added.

It is important that startup and shutdown procedures are well documented and tailored to specific site environment standards. the operations manual should clearly define where the scripts reside, the normal process flow, and how to manipulate the components manually, if needed. equally important is the process and documentation around the database and any supporting processes. startup, shutdown, and system dependencies should be clearly documented, outlining normal and manual process flow. Task assignments across technology layers. How to expand zimbra appliance hard drive and mail storage capacity posted on july 23, 2012 by justin paul 4 comments lately i’ve been testing out the new zimbra 8 beta appliance in both my lab as well as capacity planning zimbra on the cluster where i host my blog and some other sites.
The recommended method of achieving a stable system is to identify and monitor a set of key performance indicators (kpis) and associated target values. policies and procedures are then created to achieve these target levels. this involves first identifying and then monitoring with alarms the factors that impact these targets. until the targets are defined and monitoring is in place, the quality of service is always an issue. the aim is to set achievable but challenging goals. when stated goals are consistently met, it is appropriate to increase the target values. some key goals may be missed in the first iteration. however, as time progresses these goals will become targeted and managed specifically to the needs of the site. periodically, if and when issues occur, these key performance indicators (kpis) are refined to focus specifically on the requirements of the site. this is also true of the monitoring policies which can also be refined to meet the specific site requirements. this Zimbra is an open source technology that is ready for instant deployment. as a single server, the capacity is limited. however, knowing the inner workings of zimbra can help to fine-tune the server to handle substantially more load than the default setup.
